Why you should eat your lotion
What it really means ‘To Eat’ and why you should care
Two years ago, we set out to create the world’s purest lotion. To us, that meant ‘edible’, composed of only all-natural food-grade ingredients.
When people find out that our skincare product is edible, they are often confused. Why would anyone care if they can eat their lotion? Well, it’s because ‘eating’ is much more than chewing and swallowing.
To us, eating is the process of putting outside things inside your body — which means your mouth isn’t a prerequisite for eating. In fact, neither is food.
Let us help you get up to speed with three thoughts on what it means to eat.
1. You don’t just eat through your mouth
Your skin is porous. We absorb a ton of stuff that comes into contact with our bodies. The CDC says that “dermal exposure to hazardous agents can result in a variety of diseases and disorders, including skin diseases and systemic toxicity”. Uhhh….scary.
2. You don’t just eat food
You apply moisturizer, grab a bagel, slather on a new coat of lip balm, guzzle a decaf latte. These are all outside things making their way inside. Why don’t we scrutinize beauty products the same way we evaluate our organic, sprouted, raw almond butter?
3. You don’t just eat during mealtimes
You use lotion all the time. Often, you apply it multiple times per day. Your body absorbs skincare products almost as often as you digest food (perhaps even more for some of us). Why is nutrition only something served at breakfast, lunch, or dinner?
So that’s why we made our product edible. Because if you wouldn’t eat it, then you shouldn’t ‘eat’ it.
