The Alaskan Hotel in Juneau, Alaska is known to have many spooky and inexplicable stories. It’s one of the most haunted places in Alaska. The Alaskan Hotel is the oldest functioning hotel in Alaska. In the early 1900s, Juneau was a city that needed to grow swiftly to shelter the miners who were flocking to the area in hopes of becoming rich during the Alaskan gold rush. James and John McCloskey, and Jules B. Caro built the Alaskan Hotel in 1913. The hotel is three-stories and has 46 guest-rooms. Initially, the hotel was a place for the miners to rest their heads and relax after a long day of work. This is when the ghostly legends began. It is believed that the patrons of the hotel and bar are the spirits who stayed there and never left.

Present owners Mike and Bettye Adams wanted to keep the authenticity of the hotel and renovated the hotel to its original Victorian style. Bettye Adams has been the hotel’s owners for forty years and she has accounted for witnessing many unexplainable things.

The frequent spirit of Alice lingers within the hotel. Alice and her husband came to the hotel during the gold rush with hopes of becoming rich. Alice’s husband left and didn’t return for weeks. Alice was running out of ways to support herself, desperate and broke, Alice began to feel her services to survive. Her husband returned shortly after this began. Her husband found her in a room with another man and was furious. Legend has it that her husband used a revolver he carried and shot the man to death. After murdering the man he killed his wife. Alice was murdered in room 219. Her ghost is seen till this death in her gown she was murdered in. The staff and guests have had interactions with Alice’s ghost. She lingers in the room where she was murdered and also rooms 218 and 318. Guests who have stayed in rooms 218, 219, and 318 request to be moved in the middle of the night, or leave the hotel entirely due to what they have encountered. Staff members have said they always feel uneasy when they are in that area of the hotel. Housekeepers report finding towels and other items moved or misplaced in the rooms. Alice is one of the many spirits that makes herself known throughout the hotel.

Room 315 is known to have a sinister spirit. In 2007, an unfortunate event took place that left a stamp on the property. A sailor entered the hotel and specifically requested to stay in a haunted room on the third floor, he was given the key to room 315. Guests heard a commotion coming from the room and the hotel staff called the police. When the police arrived, they entered a gruesome scene. There was blood splattered all on the walls and they discovered a broken window. Apparently, the sailor jumped out the window and fell on the ground below. The sailor survived and to this day the sailor has no motive to jumping out the window and an explanation to the blood all over the walls.
