Don’t Send a CV, Send a Proposal

From this morning’s bible reading... This is the biblical story of where Joseph, who has just been brought from Prison to interprete the dream of King Pharaoh, drops a proposal because his CV alone as a dream-interpreter wouldn’t get him the job. And did he eventually get the job? Check it out. See below. Genesis 41:33-39, NIV

33 “And now let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man and put him in charge of the land of Egypt.

34 Let Pharaoh appoint commissioners over the land to take a fifth of the harvest of Egypt during the seven years of abundance.

35 They should collect all the food of these good years that are coming and store up the grain under the authority of Pharaoh, to be kept in the cities for food.

36 This food should be held in reserve for the country, to be used during the seven years of famine that will come upon Egypt, so that the country may not be ruined by the famine.”

37 The plan seemed good to Pharaoh and to all his officials.

38 So Pharaoh asked them, “Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?”

39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. 40 You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you.”

You all know how much I speak against the current system of education following that it just prepares people for a world that no longer exists. The current system of education is the major cause of unemployment today.

Back in the day, to get a job all you had to do was buy (or borrow) a new suit. Write a good CV. Wear your suit to submit the CV and during the interview the panel will look at your CV and ask a few questions and the job is yours.

Right now, people can buy degrees and grades and make up a CV, and so the job market is no longer looking for people with titles. It’s looking for people with solutions. Problems solvers.

So to get a job, instead of just sending a CV sit down and study the company or organization you want to work with. Find out their history, problems, competitors, and come up with a solution. Then send a proposal. And see the magic happen.
Joseph was made Egypt’s first Prime Minister not because he had a good CV? In fact he was a prisoner who had a rape case hanging on his head. Rather he became PM because he had a solution.

What solution do you have?
