My IC Experience

All events mentioned in the following were testimonials from Safaa Faraa, the current LCP of LC Bardo in Tunisia. This is not my story, i repeat, this is NOT my story . Well, i wish it was !

We come to point where we realize that there’s always more in life than what we can see, that beyond what we already acknowledge there’s still so much that we don’t. It’s a moment that is inevitable, unforgettable and absolutely amazing! And for many , IC Colombia was a manifestation of such moment. Seeing so much people from so many different countries and cultures all gathered in one place, realizing how much you can learn from each one of them and doing so many activities that drive you to reflect and review your “WHY” in this organization is definitely something to cherish.

“Our organization is really bigger than the majority of us thinks, I realized that what we are doing, if we truly put our hearts in it, we CAN be the change we are seeking” says Safa. She also mentioned how the IC experience helped her confirm something she strongly believed in which is the tremendous impact that AIESEC makes on the world through seeing its impact on the region, the country and the brave young spirits who drive this impact through their acts under the name of this organization.

When she was asked about what she remembers the most about the IC, Safa said that the event “World Largest Lesson day” Is something she will never forget. In this event, delegates went to different schools in Cartagena and delivered presentations about their countries and about SDGs to the kids there managing to cross all the language barriers and actually being able to communicate with them. What truly was amazing to her was the high engagement of the kids and how they took their presentations seriously, they even went beyond that and started teaching delegates how to dance and sing creating an environment of harmony and understanding despite all the differences between them.

“That day deserves to be named my best during the whole IC and I am sincerely grateful for taking part in the World Largest Lesson day and hopefully we can deliver it here in Tunisia, I am sure that would be of a great impact.” She adds.

What this organization did and is doing is critical for every AIESECer, to understand and appreciate, I could see this in her eyes as she was telling how her experience with those kids made her sense of belonging and love for her country get even stronger. And I could feel each time how grateful she was to AIESEC and these conferences that make people from different places cross each other’s lives, learn, engage, change perspectives, exchange cultures and think as global citizens.

When she was asked about what she wants to say at the end Safa answered :” I would like of each AIESECer to know that the change starts from within, understand your why and start the change as a person first then as a member of this amazing organization, as an LC, as an entity. Relate what we do to the development of individuals around us that will lead to the change of our own beloved countries, regions and finally the world. We are able of doing more so let us do it and do it from the heart.”
