New Echo Grid Music Coming Next Week!
Music and I have a bit of a strained relationship. Most of the time we’re cool, co-existing in harmony. But there are times like the last few years where I wasn’t able to write something that interested me, let alone other people.
I started realizing this shortly after releasing the Haze EP back in 2014. It feels much shorter than that, but the honest truth is that I’ve not really released something worthwhile for years, at least under the Echo Grid project. There were the odd side-projects like Dream Recall and Psykkle (both of which I contributed vocals to) and that one remix I made for my friend zarr. Other than that, it was mostly photography and sports that kept me distracted from my inability to compose something good. Until earlier this week.
The result of a few days (and nights) of experimentation, I am finally comfortable enough with the state the song’s in to announce a release date: August 6.
While I am excited to work on music again, it’s not going to be coming out in the same form as my older stuff. There won’t be any albums for the foreseeable future, nor am I planning on releasing an EP or something. It’s just going to be singles from here on out. I’ve talked to quite a few people about this plan and I know that having a full-length album to sink your teeth into is preferable as a listener of ambient and downtempo music, but it’s just not something I’m willing to do at this point. Here’s why: focusing on singles will allow me to release songs in a (relatively) quick fashion and going at it one short release at a time means I’ll have less trouble overseeing the the production which means I won’t burn out as quickly.
That being said. . . is an album definitely off the table? No. Nothing ever is. It’s just not something I want to do right now.
Until then, I hope that you’ll like the new song and all those that follow! Starting August 6, you will be able to listen to the new song on my Bandcamp and Soundcloud, with major streaming services getting the track a short while after that (digital distribution takes time).
Chris.
