Calling all Bay Area foodies!

Have you tried these five, cheap places to get Asian food? They’re all easily accessible from BART!

Shooting Star Café — Oakland

Shooting Star Café is a Cantonese Café that provides a wide variety of food from clay pot to macaroni and even waffles. As typical of Asian restaurants, don’t expect high quality service, but the food is reasonably priced and it’s open 7am — 12am every day of the week. The restaurant is a five minute walk from the 12th St. BART station in Oakland

Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea — Berkeley

Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea is a bubble (boba) tea shop located on the South side of UC Berkeley. Yifang is known for its fruity drinks typical of Taiwan bubble tea. It doesn’t sell any snacks, but the drinks are easy to grab on the go as long as there isn’t too long of a line! Open 11am — 8pm every day of the week, it’s a 15 minute walk from the Downtown Berkeley BART station and puts you right at the top of Telegraph Ave.

Sheng Kee Bakery #19 — Berkeley

Sheng Kee Bakery is right around the corner from Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea on Telegraph Ave. This Asian bakery sells a variety of sweet and savory options from Asian pastries, moon cakes, and desserts. Grab a tray and grab some food! Sheng Kee sells their own bubble tea if you don’t want to wait in line at Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea. Sheng Kee Bakery is open 8am — 8pm every day of the week.

Matcha Café Maiko — San Francisco

If you like matcha, you’ll like Matcha Café Maiko. It’s a 15 minute walk from Montgomery St. BART station. You can take a trolly to Chinatown on Clay St. to shorten the walk. From Chinatown, Matcha Café Maiko is a two minute walk. Matcha Café Maiko has an assortment of matcha drinks and desserts.

Good Mong Kok Bakery — San Francisco

Saving the best for last, this is one of my favorite dim sum places. Open from 7am — 6pm, Good Mong Kok Bakery sells out quickly, so get there early! Business picks up especially around lunch time with a line out the door. This grab and go bakery has cheap prices and is worth the wait. There’s a great selection of dim sum like char siu bao, siu mai, and har gow. $20 gets you a lot of food as it’s about $3 per item. Similar to Matcha Café Maiko, get off at the Montgomery St. BART station then take a trolly to Chinatown.

These five places are easily accessible holes in the wall that you won’t want to miss. Hop on BART and check them out! If you do check them out, let me know what you think in the comments. I’ve been to them all and would love to hear what you think.
