From New York to Paris, here are some of the trends that reigned supreme on the runways.

One of the most important fashion events of the year, Fashion Month, is back and better than ever. Held bi-annually, it takes place in the fashion capitals of the world during February and September, and highlights trends that’ll be dominating in those next months.

This Fall/Winter Fashion Show Season was no small feat, and while fashion is of course its main focus, there were some eye-catching beauty trends that definitely cemented the shift from the oh-so famous “Clean Girl Aesthetic” that seemed to be on top for the past two years.

Here, I collected just a few of the looks that most caught my attention and we’ll surely see more often, both in the media and IRL.

1. Smokey-eyed, rockstar chic

The 90’s are back in full swing and it’s come to kill the “Clean Girl Aesthetic”. From thick eyeliner to smudged eye makeup that almost looks like you forgot to wash it the night before, you don’t need to worry about perfecting that cat-eye anymore.

To achieve a smudged eyeliner look is fairly simple, all you need is to swap out that liquid eyeliner for pencil liner or black, brown and grey eyeshadow. And to make it more grunge-esque, use a smudging brush or your own fingers to achieve the ultimate rockstar eyes.

2. Celestial Glamour

The stars have always been an excellent source of inspiration, and this year they’re front and center. Dubbed “Celestialcore” by many, metallic, glittery makeup looks were all over the runways this season. Thom Browne featured gorgeous looks that leave you starry-eyed (pun intended) with constellation makeup, while Harris Reed not only added glitter onto hair, but also rhinestone lip looks on the runway.

If you’re a fan of this ethereal aesthetic just as much as I am, luckily it can be achieved through various products. Glittery liquid eyeshadows, metallic eyeliners, rhinestones and shiny star stickers are just a few of the unlimited products you could use to achieve your own versions of these celestial looks.

3. All about red (lips)

Red lipstick has always been a classic look, and this year is no exception. Not only is it extremely popular on runways like Dolce & Gabbana as well as events like this year’s Super Bowl (or Fenty Bowl), if you haven’t already, it’s time to invest in looking for that signature red lip. Whether it’s matte or gloss, bloody red or cherry, all shades and textures will be more than welcome in the coming months.

Think it’s too bright or bold for you? Consider wearing it with a brown or black lip liner to either darken or make the color look more subtle.

4. The Bolder the Better

Clearly, a consensus of these past years is that beauty has no limits or rules and this year will not change. NYFW has solidified the creativity that can be had in beauty. Take 2023 as an invitation to experiment more with your makeup and ignore the possible “what will they say?”. Go all out and just have fun!
