The Petersen Automotive Museum in Mid-Wilshire celebrates automotive history, industry, artistry and culture. With an award winning exterior that invokes movement, speed and wind gracing the body of eras of automobiles, the museum is situated at the center of Los Angeles’ most car-centric city.

The museum was founded in 1994 by Robert E. Petersen and his wife Margie. Originally located within the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, the museum moved to its current location which was once a historic department store. It was then redesigned by the architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox. The renovation cost $90 million.

Inside, the Petersen Automotive Museum is a world-class destination for car lovers and enthusiasts. With over 95,000 square feet of exhibit space, the museum has something for everyone. Visitors can choose to start their tour on the History floor, which focuses on the history of cars and the impact they have had on the world. Then, the second floor features a gallery of industry-driven technology and design. The third floor has a constantly changing selection of classic and concept cars from around the world.

There are also a number of special exhibits that are devoted to bringing out the beauty and artistry of automobiles. For example, the Mullin Grand Salon is a showcase for world-famous car designer Peter Mullin’s collection of vintage cars.

This is a must-see for any car lover, especially those who live in Los Angeles. It is a great place to take the kids, too, as it has a number of interactive exhibits. The Cars Mechanical Institute, for example, is inspired by the animated film CARS and features characters that explain the inner workings of the automobile.

Another highlight of the museum is The Vault, where more than 250 rare and exotic cars are displayed. However, only half of them are on display at any given time. To get a better look, visitors can take the museum’s Vault Tour.

The museum is open daily, except for major holidays. Guests can book tickets online to avoid lines and save money. It’s best to arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled visit.

You can park for free in the garage across from the museum. You should note that the parking structure doesn’t have elevators, so if you’re visiting with children or people with disabilities, you might want to drop them off on the first floor before you go in.

If you’re planning on going to the Petersen Automotive Museum, you should buy your tickets well in advance. They are non-refundable and expire one year from the date of purchase.

Once you’ve purchased your ticket, it is important to arrive at the museum at least 15 minutes before your reservation time to ensure you have a quick and convenient entry into the building. Having plenty of time to explore will allow you to enjoy the experience at your own pace and not miss any of the fascinating exhibits.

The Petersen Automotive Museum is located at 6060 Wilshire Blvd in the Miracle Mile neighborhood of Los Angeles, on the western edge of Museum Row. It is close to many of the city’s most popular attractions, including the LA County Museum of Art and the LACMA Urban Light Sculpture. The museum is also a short walk from the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum.
