Arthur, one of the advantages of being on the other side of the planet is that I can sit objectively and watch all sides. Firstly, I read Murdoch press and largely disregard it. Then, I read and watch all your other media. I am not a Democrat, nor a Republican and find my political views, slightly left of centre for no other reason than I believe it is fairer to share wealth more evenly within a democracy, rather than concentrate it into the top 1%. The vast majority of people are not in that group and could never be.
Being a person who has studied climate change and written on the subject, I understand it to be the biggest threat to the human race and every other species on Earth. I guess I have the benefit of an education, which does not show the world being built by a God 6,ooo years ago and in seven days. I understand evolution and I believe in the scienctific findings of 97% of the world’s trained scientists. I am a mature-aged person and have travelled widely around this great planet and I personally, have seen the changes.
There is plenty of scientific and historical evidence, which clearly shows that changes, like we are currently experiencing, have not occurred at this rate in recorded history. I also know, as do many of us less sheltered, that there are clear and simple remedies to prevent the worst impacts occurring and that most of the world’s governments are progressing down this route. This is because they are not full of the ideology that America is the greateast place on Earth and that under a its ‘new king’ (or saviour) and in true biblical fashion, the waters will part, the famine will end and people (at least wealthy white people) will once again be great.
The rest of us are mostly realists, practical and prepared to take the hard but necesary steps to save our planet from the damage done by greedy, corporate wealth and people like Donald Trump, who bathe in avarice.
