We are Creating a Publishing & Research Group

Hello all Temple students and Medium bloggers reading this—

My name is Aidan Errickson and I’m a member of the Temple Economics Society’s executive board at Temple University. We are in the process of creating a new branch under the Temple Economics Society called the Publishing & Research Department. If you are interested in learning about our club, click here for more information. If you are interested in writing for us, keep reading.

We will be using Medium to post our weekly economics journal. We’re hoping for this journal to be personable, informative, and creative. That being said, we are looking for STAFF! The following are a few of our open positions:

Researcher & Contributor — key role will be researching data and contributing content to the journal. We have a couple sub-sections of this journal we would like to set up, so we are looking for some contributors who are knowledgeable economics, finance, politics, history, and education. These pieces will likely need to be cited unless specifically designated as an opinion piece. We are hoping to create a dialogue among Temple students and we need to be correct in our numbers, figures, statistics, and facts. Moreover, we would like this journal to be personal and enjoyable to read for individuals who are not as familiar with economics. Number of hours expected per week: 3–4

Editor — key role will be proofreading, fact checking, and generally keeping the contributors on their toes about what content they’re creating. We need a team of clearheaded, hawk-eyed students who are confident in their grammatical and vocabulary abilities. We would prefer Philosophy, Law and English majors to fill this role, but we are open to anybody who believes that they are a good fit. Number of hours expected per week: 4–5

Graphics & Web Building — So this role is a bit of a mixed bag. What we have in mind for this team would be a group of people who we trust to run the behind-the-scenes of this Medium account. It can also amount to someone who is aesthetically adept and wants to make us look pretty. Lastly, I’d love for somebody in this role to be friendly enough to work with others and create a couple of political cartoons and illustrations on an off-week. Maybe you can create a couple to throw in storage so have some jokes during finals week? Who knows. Number of hours expected per week: varies on commitment and skill

Some reasons why you should apply:

  1. You will come out of this with an array of works to choose from if you need a writing sample for an employer or applying to graduate school.
  2. You will deepen your understanding of economics, philosophy, and politics.
  3. You will learn what it’s like to work on a creative team with deadlines and restrictions without the added pressure of failing your class (although I’m not afraid to fire you if you give me some slop).

If you are interested, please e-mail your resume and a one-page writing sample to econclub@temple.edu. Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more.

P.S. We are taking suggestions on names for this publication. Feel free to add a private comment on this post with ideas and they will be considered. I think anything is better than “Temple University Student Journal of Economics”, so don’t be shy!
