VaynerMedia + Magic Johnson Enterprises Take the Stage at Innovation Summit

Innovators, entrepreneurs and investors in the world of startup-driven innovation are gathering at the Inside/Outside Innovation Summit, June 19–21, in Lincoln, NE.

Thirty-five speakers will offer startups and corporate innovators practical tools and techniques for accelerating and injecting innovation into organizations. This is the first time a collection of global innovators of this caliber has gathered in the Midwest.

Two new speakers announced include Mickey Cloud, SVP and Head of the Chattanooga Office for VaynerMedia and Ryan Smith, Director of Investments for Magic Johnson Enterprises

Mickey Cloud — VaynerMedia

Mickey Cloud is SVP, Head of the Chattanooga Office, for VaynerMedia, a 700+-person digital ad agency with headquarters in NYC and offices in LA, Chattanooga, & London.

After starting his career in Account Management & Strategy at 3 different advertising agencies, Mickey joined VaynerMedia in 2011 when the company had 35 employees. From there, Mickey has had a hand in its growth from small social media start-up to recognized leader in the advertising industry at large.

After spending four years in the VMNY headquarters across the Account/Strategy and Operations / Resourcing / Hiring teams, in July 2015, he and a talented and merry band of 20 employees opened the office in Chattanooga, TN.

In the two years since VaynerMedia opened its doors in Chattanooga, Mickey has overseen the office produce award winning work for Ruby Tuesday, and grown a diverse client roster of companies across the Tech, CPG, OTC/Pharma, Sports & Entertainment, Fitness, B2B, and Energy sectors.

Ryan Smith — Magic Johnson Enterprises

Ryan Smith is the Director of Investments for Magic Johnson Enterprises, where he leads the Venture Capital practice for the basketball legend and business phenomenon. Ryan brings over 10 years of experience in investing at the intersection of profit and positive social impact to Magic Johnson Enterprises.

Magic Johnson Enterprises is a diversified holding company with assets under management exceeding one billion dollars. Its segments include sports and entertainment, financial services, and health care. The company employs a business philosophy of “doing well by doing good.”

Prior to joining Magic Johnson Enterprises, Ryan worked at Bronze Investments, where he invested in early stage technologies at the intersection of profit and positive social impact. Before Bronze, Ryan was a member of the founding team of IMB Development Corporation, a New York-based private equity firm focused on building large scale minority- and women-owned businesses.

Previously, Ryan served as the Ambassador to the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital. In his role, he worked to improve the hospital’s operational and financial profiles during the earliest days of the Affordable Care Act. Ryan began his career at Morgan Stanley.

In addition to his private sector activities, Ryan is a co-founder of Restoring Our Character (ROC), a not-for-profit organization in his hometown of Chicago. ROC focuses on introducing inner-city youth to various experiences, skills and opportunities that breed success and enable them to break the cycle of poverty. Ryan serves on the board of the Harlem Tech Fund, which aims to empower current Harlem residents with the tools they need to successfully remain in and transform their communities for the better.

Ryan graduated Magna Cum Laude from Howard University with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration and received his M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Ryan’s passion is empowering the historically underserved through ensuring they have access to the tools and opportunities necessary to actualize their dreams.

Hosted by Econic and the Inside/Outside Innovation podcast team, the Inside/Outside Innovation Summit is a 3-day national conference that will bring together high-growth startups and corporate innovators to collide and engage with new startups, new technologies, new business models and new talent.
