Day 3

Listening to an online micro-class delivered via wechat right next now. So far not much interaction yet, the speaker just sends short voice messages into the app. Audiences can not comment but can send small amount of money to him if they like the topic. So far not bad. I teach in college and I sometimes sense that this could be the future for a lot of subjects especially human science. Students this semester told me that they absolutely prefer face to face communication, maybe due to amount of equations and graphs I have used for this course. How to be a good professor? How to be better every class? I think about these questions all the time. One of the reasons I join the academia is that I want to influence students life positively. How do you define the success of such? The effects may not be immediate but I want them to look back one day and can think of something I have enabled them to do, to act.

I spend equal amount of time on teaching preparing and research even though my contract merely emphasis the later. I have the chance to teach this class over and over again but students will only learn it once. I know I can and I will teach better over time but I will do the best for each group of students because they deserve nothing but the best.
