What does a local government do when it wants to produce a pedestrian model for a clearer picture of how people walk about its cities? They turn to Ecopia for sidewalk and crosswalk extractions, ensuring accurate information at scale, in significantly less time than traditional methods. The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) is a regional planning partner that promotes informed decision making through use of data as it relates to the regions water and transportation systems.
One of the main priorities for SEMCOG is their walkability, improving quality of life for residents across their counties using data, planning and collaboration to improve mobility solutions that drive economy, and safely connecting people and place. Ecopia set-out to deliver a superior extraction and sidewalks and crosswalks of Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne Counties to help SEMCOG in their request for a comprehensive overview of sidewalks and crosswalks.
SEMCOG learned how quickly Ecopia could produce the required extraction which enabled them to decrease the amount of time required for the project. By automating the data creation by using Ecopia, this allowed SEMCOG to work on their regional analysis.
Working with feedback provided the team at SEMCOG, Ecopia is able to extract and improve our existing AI-systems, so that time to completion is shorter, and accuracy is above or beyond that of a trained GIS professional. Ecopia is able to extract not only sidewalks and crosswalks, but over 12 different land features, off of a variety of imagery as past of our Global Feature Extraction service, allowing customers across the globe to access information that is imperative to the work being done at the local government level, and beyond.
Customers at Ecopia continue to help us improve and innovate, helping to push the boundaries of geospatial technologies. To learn more about what and how we extract through Global Feature Extraction services, please reach out to email@example.com or check our website.
