How to Treat Perioral Dermatitis

Does Calendula Cream Help Rashes?

Perioral dermatitis affects a number of people in North America. Like other forms of eczema, this skin condition can be quite persistent. Some people who have been affected by the skin disorder have been battling it for years. There are several natural remedies that are supposed to help alleviate the symptoms, as well as prescription treatments that bring relief.

Learning how to treat perioral dermatitis usually involves trail and error. The over the counter and prescription medications that work for one person may not necessarily help another. Perioral dermatitis is different from contact dermatitis in several ways. Individuals who have it have bumps appearing exclusively on their face. Many patients have a rash appear around their mouth, forehead, nose or eyes.

Unfortunately, young women, perhaps one of the most beauty conscious groups in any society, are the ones who are most typically affected. Apart from the rash, there are other symptoms such as a burning sensation around the eyes or mouth. You should not apply creams that have worked for you with other forms of eczema unless you speak to your doctor first. They may seem to succeed then bring the bumps back even worse than before. Cortisone creams are known for doing more harm than good with eczema of this nature.

What Causes Perioral Dermatitis? Doctors suspect that this skin disorder is due to cosmetics and oral health products, such as facial creams and whitening toothpastes. Physicians also think that stress and certain environments can cause the rash. For example, a young woman may be working somewhere that is subject to rapid fluctuations in temperature. This can cause the bumps to develop around her chin.

Does Calendula Cream for Perioral Dermatitis Help? Calendula cream is used as a diaper rash treatment. Most people who have tried it have not reported any dramatic change from this alone. Usually, they eliminate toothpaste, facial cleansers, face soaps, certain shampoos, steroids and other irritants from their lives and combine that with the medication.

Some forms of diaper rash treatment work well for acne and other skin disorders because of the zinc that’s in them. Taking zinc supplements has helped some young women and men to beat their dermatitis. However, this does not mean that they work well for everyone. Talk to your dermatologist about any treatment you are considering before you start it.
