The problem with this argument is that, taken to its logical extreme, it could imply that the President is above the law. If we take as a maxim that Trump couldn’t be impeached because of the way his supporters would react, how could we trust that he would uphold the Constitution and the rights of minorities? For that matter, how could we trust him not to go into the middle of Fifth Avenue in NYC and shoot someone? (I mean, he actually threatened to do that once).
