Rules Matter — until they don’t work for you.

Folks keep wanting to re-write, replace or abandon laws they might have outlived their purpose. It makes sense to re-evaluate regulations and rule from time to time — the world is changing quickly, so it makes sense to adapt accordingly. Those in defense of the 2nd amendment should recognize that our nation (and weaponry) has exceeded the wildest imaginations of the framers of our nation and the Constitution. We should be as mindful of what that means to us all. And there are some rules, like the filibuster rule, that really makes a difference in a democracy. Yet, in a divided nation (more like 70/30), certain rules help balance justice — or try to.

Common courtesy, respecting others and the Golden Rule are also important in a civil society. However, those who don’t have a decent, moral compass to honor those rules are likely to care little about some political strategies. So, on the politics of it all, here are a few thoughts:

1) The #FilibusterRule is part of the checks and balance that our elected officials need to keep honest and fair (or as best as possible).

2) The politically competent know that the majority can shift any time. The incompetent control all branches and still can’t get work done. The really incompetent don’t acknowledge the truth and the call out the root of incompetence.

3) America is realizing that WE control the Senate AND House AND will control the WH, because, again, our system still contains effective checks and balances.

4) We need to rethink the Electoral College process.

5) All votes matter — when we disregard the vote, people who have disregard for us may get into office.

6) No true patriot would ignore injustice, defend the indefensible or cede our values and democracy for another nation.

And, a bonus:

Trouble — and the troublesome — don’t last always.
