Why does good overcome evil?

God uses good to overcome evil. Why? Evil is simply the absence of good or God since God is good. Anytime we interject “goodness” into a bad or evil situation we bring God’s presence into it.

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21

Jesus taught this same principle many times in multiple ways. In Luke 6:27, he said,

“But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,”

If you are going to love your enemies you are going to do good towards them. Because God’s love always treats people better than they deserve. It also guards the heart of the one who is walking in love from a root of bitterness taking root in their own heart. Roots eventually produce fruit and as believers, we should be producing the fruit of the spirit which is love and not bitter fruit rooted in bitterness.

In the story of the prodigal son, we see the son resist the embrace, kiss, and acceptance of his father. He tells his father all of the sins he has committed, as the reason he no longer qualifies to be his son. The prodigal didn’t believe his father nor the God they believed in could forgive all his sins. The father’s reaction is priceless. He orders his servants to bring the prodigal a new robe, shoes and a ring and to go…
