It’s worth noting that deBoer was in fact entirely right about how the Toast readership (and editors) responded to criticism of the “Books All White Men Own” piece: http://the-toast.net/2015/05/13/my-favourite-deleted-comments-from-the-white-dude-book-list/ Most of the criticisms are, obviously, coming from a completely different place than deBoer — or at least are significantly less nuanced — but the four pages of comments on the deleted-comments piece are exactly the bizarrely gleeful “white male tears” comments that deBoer predicted.
