Capitalism is a false label (it doesn’t really matter who owns the capital, so long as the capital is transferable and not socialised); what Rick’s Dad is rightly praising is free(ish) well regulated markets.
Whether those markets are used as an engine for significant redistribution (social democracy) or not, they are clearly better than the alternative (state or social ownership of the means of production)
