K.I.S.S.

How many times have we most championed the advice we received that proceeded an immediate “duh” epiphany? To this day, the most profound and defining quip that forever changed my creativity can be abridged to one word; perspective. So many of the responses I have read instruct us to see the sights, reflect on the past, do a few hundred crunches. I just simply sit. Not in the leather executive arm chair in front of my 3oo dollar IKEA desk. No. Sit. On the floor. SIT! (You’ll thank me later.)

Hence perspective.

An op-ed of a few hundred words chastising the common adult for long since abandoning their basic fundamentals of childhood ecstasy; imagination — for me — boiled down to a much simpler lesson. Sit on the damn floor. Now look around. Things look silly from down here don’t they? Good. Now write, you fool.

It was so simple and yet life changing. In that instant everything seemed to have so much more vibrance. My sketches, my photography, but mostly, my prose. Great stuff, right? Well that simple adjustment is only the beginning…
