65. Your life’s mission statement

I believe that everyone is born with a mission. That our existence serves a bigger purpose in this world than just to graduate, get a job and have a family.
A life mission can be as simple as bringing joy to the loved ones, as ambitious as changing the world or as honorable as improving the life quality of others. Whatever it is, there must be something that is aligned with our strengths and interests that we can work toward to provide value to others. Something that is bigger than us. Something that when we imagine doing will leave us feeling proud and meaningful.
Without a mission, we’d feel lost. We’d just be going through the motion of life, floating and simply surviving. Exactly where middle-life crisis would stem from.
That’s why it’s important to have a mission statement. A guiding principle for every decision that we make, the skills we build, the experience we choose. The motivation that inspires what we do every day.
I’m writing this not because I’ve figured it all out. I’m writing this because I’ve felt out of place and unmotivated lately. So I explored what would give more meaning to my days. And I created a mission statement for myself: “To better the lives of a million people through innovations, education, and entertainment”.
Now that gets me excited to wake up.
