Hello my name is Eduard Monteagudo. I’m the founder and CEO of Cocoon. I hope everybody is staying safe in these shifting times.

Since a lot of us are being asked to stay in, and the big majority are spending this confinement time in living spaces, I wanted to use this moment to hear your point of view on a topic that is a fundamental part of our mission.

I started Cocoon as a result of a personal journey where I understood that I didn’t want to put my skills as a designer and creator to the service of old structures and wealthy people. I believe that design and architecture, that spaces in general, can be transformational, and I felt a call to devote my career to finding ways to make transformational design accessible to all, not just the wealthy few. Only this way, will we unleash the true potential of our civilization. By inspiring and empowering everyone, I believe that we will see outstanding outcomes that will deeply modify the course of our species and our impact on planet earth.

To reach our goal, the first step is to create a solid platform that capitalizes on an existing infrastructure. This is why today, Cocoon serves the creative industry in NYC with unique locations for media productions, events, offsite meetings and fashion showrooms. However, this is just one step of many that will involve a hyper creative approach on how to rethink real estate in major cities and democratize access to design and art.

It’s clear that spaces are our medium, and especially the spaces we deal with on a daily basis: homes, offices, hospitals, transportations, etc. And one of the most important spaces each one of us deals with every day is the living space, our homes, whatever you want to call home. The place where we dream, we sleep, we grow, we love, we make love, we learn, we argue, we project our lives — where we experience our most intimate moments . This is why we at Cocoon want to know your take on the living space as a concept — how do you envision the house of the future?

We believe that today our civilization lives in homes that were conceptualized for a different time in our road map as a species. Hyper programmed spaces that were designed to serve a system.

A master bedroom, one or two smaller bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room where all the furniture is facing a big TV.

Sleep, wake up, use the kitchen to prepare the food to be productive for the system, leave the house, come back, sit in front of the TV that will deliver the stories to keep you hooked to the system, cook again, sleep, repeat.

This was probably ok 70 years ago, in a very particular moment in history.

However, we believe that today, we’ve changed a lot: the concept of the family unit has changed — there is no longer one singular accepted definition. The family unit takes many different shapes and forms. Family today is a way broader concept and the way we use our living space has changed with it. Our homes are being used as offices, as studios, spiritual centers… and during this time where we are asked to stay in homes are being used as gyms, schools, meditation spaces, recording studios, etc

I personally think that it’s time to question the living space as a concept. I think the concept needs to be reimagined to reflect our current and future realities.

How do you envision the house of the future? How do you envision the house of the future so it helps unleash your true emotional, spiritual and creative potential?

We want to know what everybody thinks, the more different points of view the better, and we will utilize our instagram as a live library of all your responses to create a conversation that will guide our next steps. Feel free to send videos to spin@spinthecocoon.com or to post on your own feed and hashtag #spinthecocoon. No rules, just answer the question in a video and we will do the rest.

Thank you
