Things to consider if you want a new Mac
2 min readOct 26, 2022
I have had my Macbook pro M1 with 16Gb of ram and 256Gb of storage for about 2 years now and it is without a doubt an amazing computer, however, there are things I would have taken into consideration when purchasing it:
- The storage
It can not be expanded, as well as you buy it so it will stay and this is because now the same motherboard has the ram, the embedded storage so it can not be modified. I work as a backend developer so there are several node_modules, I also have Docker, among other applications that consume a lot of storage.
At first I thought it would be enough if I stay well organized but the reality is that after installing some apps, downloading project documentations and my personal files, I only have about 18Gb left to work with. System data takes up almost half of the storage.
Instead of having bought this configuration, I think the minimum for working as a developer should be at least 512Gb. - The ports
It is terrible to have to buy a hub to place the screen and an extra keyboard, there is not much to say because they have already fixed it in the new Macbook pro M2 but it is something to consider … There are never too many ports. - The keyboard
It is superb but after two years of having it the keys are already shiny, I thought they would be more resistant to the passage of time, but no. - The touchbar
I love it but not many apps use it, Word, Excel, Slack, VScode use it but I don’t really use it that much, maybe just to hang up calls and for little else
