You left out an important caveat. Is the Republican a moderate or further to the right? This is a critical difference because the party base has worked to shun moderate Republicans, making the party home to ideologically pure and thus intellectually dishonest conservatives. In a display of obtuse drivel, the party base refers to moderate Republicans as Republicans in name only, which is only true if one’s political perspective is highly distorted. After all, democracy is a center-left/center-right form of governance, not compatible with more extreme positions toward either end of the political spectrum. If there were more moderate Republicans in congress, we would have functional democracy instead of dysfunctional.
