Rotary Club of Bacolod South Football Challenge 2017
Football Challenge 2017 sponsored by Rotary Club of Bacolod South
In order to enhance the skills and talents of the youth in both academics and in sports, the Rotary Club of Bacolod South held its first ever football challenge called the 1st Recoletos Invitational Football Challenge Cup last May 30 to June 3, 2017.
This event headed by the Rotary Club of Bacolod South was in partnership with the University of Negros Occidental Recoletos (UNO-R) and the Rams Football Club.
The beginning of the challenge cup was held in the UNO-R field in Bacolod City on May 30. And on the same day, a fellowship amongst the schools and the Rotarians was held at the university grounds.
From then on, continuous challenges were held between the UNO-R’s high school and elementary football teams against some of the invited five football teams from schools such as Ramon Torres High School, Bago City Elementary School, Sagay City National High School and Elementary School, and the Bata National High School and Elementary School.
The process of the competition was a 11-a-side way with having the top two teams in both levels, elementary and high school level, competing in the finals for the championship.
All teams fought hard, but only two teams for each level came up on top to compete for the title of champion of the football challenge. The two schools that competed for the championship for the elementary level were the St. John’s Institute and the Bago FC, where Bago Football Club came out as the winner at this level.
As for the high school level, the two schools that competed for the championship were the UNO-R high school booters against the Bago Football Club. The game ended with a 3–2 score, where the UNO-R came out as the champion of the high school level. And the Trinity Christian School Football Club took the third place in the high school level for the football challenge 2017.
This win of UNO-R became the reason why Bago FC was not able to grab all the wins in every level of the competition, while the Bata Football Club was awarded with the Sportsmanship achievement in both levels of the competition.
The Rotary Club of Bacolod South made it a point that the event would promote, improve, and highlight the importance of developing both academics and sports in the life of the youth in the region. The relevance of advancing sports gives the youth an outlet, other than their academics, to showcase the skills and talents they have.
The competition was a success thanks to the management of the UNO-R Sports Office, which was headed by the sports moderator, Ericson Rios, who was the tournament manager for the event. And the overall tournament chairman for the event was Rams FC President Jumar Encabo.
The organizers promised that in the next football challenge there will be more teams that will be invited to join the competition to further promote playing sports in the region and to advance the skills of the children in their respective sports.
