Joining the Educom Community.

On 27th February 2019, I joined a group or a community called Educom. They are mainly known to support others, connect with members and mobilize resources and apply the lessons learned across several projects for a strategic change creating enabling environment. In view of this I was introduced to The Career Collective Program 2019. It’s a career training program for students & Graduates ready to start a good career path and solve societal challenges through digital technology.
On Saturday, 2nd March 2019, i joined the class as a new participant. I faced some small network challenges in joining because it was via zoom app. I was welcomed in the middle of the class session. The Facilitator for the session was, Prince Osei Aboagye (Certified Modern Data Scientist at University of Utah). A lot were said before I joined the class but later I was given the slides for the session to catch up.
The topic was Modern Data Science. The topic was taken through a chronological order making us understand the following;
0. Data scientist can be a person who is better at statistics than any software engineer and better at software engineering than any statistician.
0. The pillars of data science are Computing, statistics, mathematics and quantitative discipline combine to analyze data for better decision making.
0. Communication & visualization, domain knowledge & soft skills, math & statistics and programming & database are the specialties of data science.
0. Hacking skills, math & statistics knowledge and substantive expertise is what makes up data science.
0. Kaggle.com, courser.org and github.com are platforms used to learn data science.

Importance of data science
0. It helps create new job opportunities and helps students in learning.
0. Creating best solutions to societal problems.
0. Creating easy connection between companies and their customers
