I have a great respect for Paul Graham. How can one not respect a Lisp programmer who has become a billionaire by helping people. I think that Wendy Liu is a little rapid in demoting Paul from hero status on the basis of one incident.
I don’t know why Paul blocked the tweet but may ask him. I enjoy his essays essays immensely. They are full of good sense. The only problem he thinks of people like me are “suits” because I was a manager before I became a programmer.
I was born 30 years too early. My first computer I saw when I was 18 in 1952. I fell in love but it was too big and too expensive. I tried desperately to get a job with computers but failed. I was always promoted.
But joy of joys in Shell in Venezuela in 1961 I was asked to evaluate 3 computer models. I accepted if I could be assigned to Management Services where I could program computers to my hearts delight. Not everyone was happy with my decision especially when one of my first systems reduced the central accounts department from 500 down to 50 persons.
So be nice Wendy give Paul a second chance. Everyone makes mistakes from time to time. Even me!
