This will sound a little harsh, but I honestly think that it’s because most men simply do not know how to communicate (particularly with some nuance or wit). This doesn’t come off as obviously when speaking because writing is far more difficult.
I see it in my daily life all the time. Most of it is just sheer negligence; just take the extra second or two to actually THINK about what you want to express in your message. Anyway, I shouldn’t go off on a rant too much here.
It reminds me of something I heard on a podcast once, very similar to what you’re saying here, Kelly. The lady described one thing that drives her mad on dating apps with men: when shifting the conversation to something serious, men will end a serious sentence with “lol” or “haha”. If memory serves me right, she gave the example of something like “well I was bullied when I was younger lol”
This then also reflects an emotional illiteracy that soooooooooo many men absolutely have. If you don’t actually know how to express your emotions (whatever they may be, from positive to negative to somewhere in between), then you either resort to emoticons, “lol”s, or “haha”s.
