What if Biden Resigns before Election Day

In the unlikely event that Joe Biden decides to resign after the Democratic Convention/Labor Day weekend how would this help the Harris/Walz campaign. Firstly, VP Harris would now be Madame President and she would be an incumbent running for President; incumbents always have home field advantage, especially if the afterglow/vibe of Harris’ campaign is beginning to lose its luster. Harris would be the first female President and she could legitimately ask the voters to assist her getting started in the job and begin her real work.

As the new incumbent President Harris could sign presidential executive orders that would have the weight of law for those programs she and Joe Biden are most identified with and cherry pick those states that could most benefit from them in return for their votes. If Harris loses Trump will cancel the executive orders in any case.

Finally the historic if novel fact of a female Presidient could flummox Trump’s campaign in those last few critical weeks before the election and flat foot Trump’s attacks on former VP now President Harris. History shows in does not take much to run Trump’s campaign off the tracks.

Imagine the excitement of a new President taking office just before the election of the next President for a four year term (two inaugurations?). Imagine Trump’s campaign staff trying to coach him for attacks against Harris; “no Mr. Trump not that President, the new one. I mean….”

A final thought, Joe Biden could have his farewell pageantry if he resigns early to make up for the way Pelosi/Obama, etc appeared to throw him under the bus in order to give Kamala Harris running room to campaign against Trump. If nothing else he would have his sweet revenge on the Dems if Harris loses. After all he was forced to make the supreme political sacrifice of ending his career for the good of the party.
