Recently a family tire shop (the oldest in town) fell into my possession (never had anything to do with it previously). Currently I am having it remodeled so the interior will look like a coffee shop — with free (and really good) coffee. Am doing this for a number of reasons: 1) the old school greasy tire shop is disappearing and being replaced by corporate (and franchised) shops that are clean and modern but they also are soulless and upsell the hell out of customers after luring them in the door with cheap oil changes or whatever (a real conveyer belt approach) and 2) nobody comes into a tire shop for anything (alignment, brakes or tires) because they want to be there and often they are in a bad mood so I thought I’d them an actual coffee shop with free coffee and a warm, cozy feel — the kind of place people want to visit. Also, women, especially millennial women are driving the future of the business and this will appeal to them. I am not looking to disrupt an industry but am aiming to differentiate my business and create my own niche so I won’t have to compete with every tire dealer in town. If anyone has any ideas, I am all ears …
