A volleyball genius who smiled at the performance of the 0th Rookie of the Year
Bae Yuna, the “volleyball genius” of Korea Expressway Corporation, smiled broadly for the first time in a long time. She won her first win of the season against Hyundai Engineering & Construction, which had been absolutely weak with five losses in five games this season, along with escaping from four consecutive losses.
The Korea Expressway Corporation won the Dodram 2023–2024 V-League Women’s Match held at Gimcheon Indoor Gymnasium on the 6th after a full-set battle with Hyundai Engineering & Construction. It was a victory that meant more than one win.
Including Bukirich, who scored 30 points, five players, including Jeon Sae-yan 14 points, Bae Yun-na, Moon Jung-won 12 points and Kim Se-bin 11 points, scored in double digits.
Bae Yuna said in an interview with SBS Sports after the game, “We have never won against Hyundai Engineering & Construction this season, so I wanted to win with a good performance, thinking that we will achieve a successful conclusion today. We were able to win because we all performed well together.”
Bae Yuna said, “The coach said, ‘Even if it’s bad in the middle, it’s good if the finish is good.’ If we end this season with such a good game, won’t we have a good performance from the beginning next season? That’s why I’m more happy about today’s victory.”
He added, “Our team focused on reducing the number of mistakes due to a lot of mistakes. And it was well done to prepare for how to prevent Yang Hyo-jin and Moma’s attack.”
Bae Yuna, who was happier than anyone else about the youngest Kim Se-bin’s performance, said, “Today, Lee Yoon-jung distributed the money well and everyone participated in the game in unison. Especially, Kim Se-bin showed a good performance and I was very proud. I want to tell Se-bin that I won thanks to you.”
Korea Expressway Corporation, the defending champion, failed to advance to volleyball this spring. As a veteran, Bae Yuna felt sorry for her. “I feel so sad that I can’t play spring volleyball, and I think the season will be more regrettable for the fans than us. We will prepare well again so that we can play spring volleyball next season,” she promised.
Meanwhile, Kim Jong-min said, “Since we had a long losing streak and never won the match against Hyundai Engineering & Construction, I thought we should win at least once. Most importantly, I desperately wanted to win at home at the end.”
