I believe some of my early memories are false (a product of photographs and stories) especially the ones supported by black-and-white grainy photos in an old photo album.
But, there is one memory that has no photograph or story. I can’t recall my age at the time, but I’m certain it was pre-school.
In front of a house we were visiting, my mother chopped up a snake with a shovel while I watched, and each piece of the snake continued to writhe in the dirt.
I believe she told me it was a rattlesnake (quite poisonous).
At that age, this was rather traumatic and formed neural connections that have never faded.
