CS 373 fall 2019: Edwin Silerio (11/3)

- What did you do this past week?
I spent most of this week working on my Game Tech project! For the past few projects for Game Tech, my team and I have had to use slip days. We decided to make more of an effort to finish early and make more progress at the beginning of the project. That effort paid off because we finished the project a whole day early! It’s amazing what starting early on projects will do. Other than Game Tech, I also worked on redesigning our website for SWE. Currently, our website looks simple. In this phase, we decided to also focus on the look of the website.
2. What’s in your way?
I’d say both of my projects for SWE and Game Tech. Although they’re not necessarily stressing me out, it’s been difficult splitting my time between both. I always want to devote all my time to one, but I can’t do that without sacrificing time on the other. Thankfully both of my teams have been understanding. Both projects also provide lots of practice for time management!
3. What will you do next week?
This upcoming week, my team and I will finish phase 3 of our website. Other than that, I will travel to San Antonio with the Longhorn Band for an exhibition performance at the UIL State Marching Contest on Monday night, and continue applying for jobs!
4. What was your experience with SQL?
Overall learning about SQL wasn’t terrible. However, some of its syntax is still confusing to me. I need to review last week’s material so I have a more clear understanding of it.
5. What is your tip of the week?
When working in groups or teams, it is important to recognize people’s work and compliment them. This will ensure that the members know that their work is not going unnoticed and morale stays high. Typically people get caught up in their own work and take their partners’ work for granted so make sure to compliment them on what they’ve accomplished.
Quote of the week: “ If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.”
