Changing Layout

Objective: Adjust workspace in Unity to a more professional look.

Open your project through Unity Hub. Once you’re inside, you will be met with the workspace’s default layout.

Unity’s default layout

We’ll need to adjust this in order to view the Scene and Game view at the same time. To save a little space, head to the top right of the workspace, click the dropdown menu that says Default, and select Tall.

Switching to Tall layout

Unity has a feature that allows you to drag and snap the panels within the workspace into different positions. With this in mind, left-click and hold the Game panel and snap it into the area right under the Scene panel.

Adjust the border to your liking

You can now see the Game view and Scene view at the same time!

Because we will often be working with a lot of assets within Unity, I would recommend switching the Project panel into a one column view.

Click the kebab menu in the top right of the Project panel and select One Column Layout.

Changing Project panel layout

This lets us view all of the folders within the Project panel.

With everything setup and looking nice, we are gonna go ahead and save this layout to use for future projects.

To do this, go back to dropdown menu in the top right of the workspace and select Save Layout. Afterwards, you can rename the layout and click save!
