To Sir Phillip, With Love and When He Was Wicked: Bridgerton Collector’s Edition (Bridgerton Collector’s Edition, 3) By Julia Quinn

To Sir Phillip, With Love tells the story of Eloise Bridgerton, the witty and independent fifth Bridgerton sibling. Tired of being the spinster aunt and yearning for adventure, Eloise impulsively responds to a letter from Sir Phillip Crane, a distant acquaintance and widower with two young children. Drawn to his plea for a loving wife and mother for his children, Eloise travels to his remote country estate, determined to find love and purpose.

Sir Phillip, scarred by his tumultuous first marriage and consumed by his scientific pursuits, is initially taken aback by Eloise’s arrival. He expected a meek and pliable woman, not the spirited and intelligent Eloise. As they navigate their newfound arrangement, they clash over their differing expectations, personalities, and approaches to life. Eloise struggles to adapt to the quiet countryside and the demands of motherhood, while Phillip grapples with his attraction to Eloise and his fear of repeating past mistakes.

Amidst the chaos of managing a household and caring for two grieving children, Eloise and Phillip slowly begin to understand and appreciate each other. Eloise’s warmth and humor bring joy back into Phillip’s life, while Phillip’s sincerity and dedication awaken a passion in Eloise she never knew existed. Their journey towards love is fraught with challenges, including societal expectations, family drama, and their own internal struggles.

When He Was Wicked delves into the backstory of Sir Phillip Crane and his first wife, Marina Thompson. This novella, originally published separately, offers a glimpse into the turbulent and ultimately tragic relationship that shaped Phillip into the man he is in “To Sir Phillip, With Love.” It explores the complexities of their marriage, highlighting Marina’s struggles with depression and societal pressures, and Phillip’s attempts to understand and support her while battling his own demons.

This collector’s edition combines both “To Sir Phillip, With Love” and “When He Was Wicked,” providing a complete picture of Phillip and Eloise’s love story. It showcases how their past experiences, both joyful and painful, shaped their individual journeys and ultimately brought them together. The story is a testament to the power of second chances, the importance of communication and understanding in a relationship, and the enduring strength of love in the face of adversity.

Review: “To Sir Phillip, With Love” was my favorite Bridgerton book, and having “When He Was Wicked” included in this edition makes it even better! It was so fascinating to see Phillip’s past and how it shaped him. Eloise is such a strong and independent character, and I loved watching her challenge Phillip and bring him out of his shell. Their love story is both heartwarming and steamy, and I couldn’t put the book down.

Review: I’ll admit, I was hesitant about Phillip and Eloise’s story at first. Phillip seemed so different from the other Bridgerton men, but Julia Quinn truly brought him to life in this book. “When He Was Wicked” was heartbreaking, but it gave me a new appreciation for Phillip’s struggles. Eloise is a perfect match for him, and their witty banter and undeniable chemistry had me hooked. This collector’s edition is a must-have for any Bridgerton fan!
