This week, our team flew out to Hong Kong to attend RISE conference, Asia’s biggest tech event. As one of the featured startups, we had the chance to meet and some incredibly interesting companies. Here are 5 of the most interesting AI and ML startups we came across.

  1. Blincam
    https://www.blincam.co/

Based in Tokyo, the team from Blincam have developed a hands-free camera that attaches to any pair of glasses. To take a photo, you simply have to wink, which was really easy to do and felt natural. They also explained their AI photo recommendation app, which manages to hide some very sophisticated tech behind a beautiful interface.

2. VIDI

Next up is Vidi, a visual discovery platform that helps travelers find fun stuff to do. Users create an itinerary for a destination and then upload videos to give other travelers a fuller sense of what to expect than you can get from reading a review. You can then buy discounted tickets for these experiences and build your own trips around these recommended activities.

3. Banuba
https://banuba.com/

The team at Banuba is building facial recognition technology for use in augmented reality apps. Their idea is to build the most satisfying user-centred experience possible, so that app developers can focus on implementing their ideas, rather than trying to get the tech to cooperate. Expect to see some pretty mind-blowing stuff coming out that’s been built on the Banuba platform.

4. Farseer

Based in Hong Kong, Farseer’s expertise lies in big data analytics and business intelligence. Their use of natural language processing (NLP) and text analysis of social channels such as Weibo and WeChat sets them apart from more traditional business intelligence firms.

5. iVideosmart

A common thread in many of the startups we met was the use of video to capture attention. Singapore’s iVideosmart uses AI to generate video content and optimize consumer engagement in advertising.
