As you may have heard, the NEO blockchain experienced some issues at the end of last week. An unknown actor sent a large amount of spam transactions to the blockchain, meaning that many legitimate transactions were pushed down the queue and unable to execute in a timely manner. This also meant that for some of our private beta users, their EFX rewards were not delivered instantly, and they experienced delays using Effect Force. We therefore decided to temporarily put the private beta on hold so we could look into these issues with NEO. Our main objective now is to take steps to prevent further interruptions to Effect Force in the event of problems on the NEO blockchain.

Effect Force modifications
According to Peter Lin, NEO’s Director of R&D, it is recommended that users pay a transaction fee of one satoshi GAS to guarantee that their transaction will still go through, even if the limit of 20 free transactions per block has already been hit. It is our intention to cover these fees ourselves, so that Effect Force workers will still receive the same level of payment and the transactions will be processed more quickly.

In addition, we are working on changes to our system that reduce the reliance upon the NEO blockchain. This will allow Effect Force to run and pay out rewards even if there are issues with NEO. Of primary concern is for Effect Force to run smoothly and pay workers a fair wage, so EFX earned during NEO outages will be saved until the blockchain is working properly again. So if an occurrence like this happens again, Effect Force workers can continue to perform tasks, safe in the knowledge that their EFX rewards will still be delivered.

While we are working on these adjustments, the private beta will remain paused. We will go live again as soon as these changes are implemented.
