End of Schedule
So I took a much needed vacation from all things computers & Linux for about a week. The drive to the vacation spot is pretty long so I had a lot of time to think about things pertaining to my Channel and the Discord community.
I’ll just come out and say it: I’m burned out. It’s a lot of work to produce great quality videos on interesting topics each week, not to mention doing a live stream here and there, and maintain a presence in the Discord community. I also have a bunch of Open Source projects going on that I try to keep up with. On top of all this, I have a family. And a career. And a bunch of hobbies that don’t include Linux at all.
Sometime early in 2017, I got into the habit of releasing a video each week. Previously, I didn’t have a regular schedule; I did videos whenever I felt like it. Interestingly, I averaged close to a video a week but I never felt pressured by myself or my viewers to stick to a particular schedule.
Accidentally committing to a weekly schedule was a mistake because I suddenly felt obligated to maintain the schedule in lieu of video quality and time I should be spending with the Discord community or my Open Source projects.
I get lots of requests for particular videos, which is fantastic, but most often when I fulfill said requests, the viewership is terribly low compared with the number of subscribers I have & the average views on other non-request videos.
As such, I’ve decided that my weekly video schedule will be coming to an end. This probably includes video requests as well. To be honest, I’m not sure when I’ll do another video because I’m just not feeling terribly passionate about anything in particular.
The good news is that I will be focusing my time on old projects that have been collecting dust on GitHub, as well as other hobbies I have and things I’d like to explore making videos about.
If you don’t already know, I have another YouTube channel for my non Linux related stuff, such as music & cars. It may surprise many of you to learn that as far as my hobbies go, Linux & computers aren’t terribly high on the list of my favorites.
I hope that this hiatus is short lived because I do enjoy making videos for folks to enjoy. I feel I need to break for a while to regain some of the passion I’ve lost attempting to maintain this futile schedule.
If you want to keep in touch with me, I’m almost always on the Egee.io Discord community.
