The solar power utilization in India has taken wings under the guidance of the Indian Government. The target is 100 GW capacity by the year 2022 of which 40 GW will come from the rooftops directly. The outlay for the plan is $100 billion.

1. The solar panel: You get three kinds of panels. The best and most expensive one is the monocrystalline panel. These panels give the most energy and due to this occupy the least roof space. The second is the polycrystalline panels. These have a lower efficiency (about 60%) and so you must use more panels for generating the same power. The third is the thin film panel which is the least efficient. They are cheap and have the advantage of working in diffused light conditions. You can use them if the temperature is high.

If you do not do so, you cannot use the energy for powering your household appliance such as the fan, the refrigerator, and the light bulbs because they all work on the alternating power supply. You have the central inverter, the string inverter, and the micro inverter. Other than that, you may use the battery-backed inverters when needed. The string inverters produce much power because you have more than one panel attached together in a string. However, people prefer the micro inverter because they have inbuilt electronic modules for each panel that converts the DC energy to AC energy.

3. The circuit switcher: When you do not use the solar power grid, you rely on the old, conventional power supply source. You connect this power grid to the house and only when you want to use the solar power, you switch to the solar power grid. The circuit switcher helps you maintain the power in your grid always.
4. Battery Pack: This unit of the solar grid helps you store the energy. For a normal household, a four or five pack battery unit will suffice the energy needs.
5. Charge controller: This is vital for the solar power grid. It helps to cut off the power input when the battery is fully charged. This way it protects the circuit and the battery.
