The quote that really stuck out to me in this post was “School texts and practices are typically static and even demotivating; thus, youth do not exert any effort to make sense of them, even when the texts are not terribly challenging.” I think this is so true. It’s hard for us to expect students to be excited about traditional texts when that is not their normal, everyday literacy practices. Like Pluat says, we have to find ways to spark students’ curiosity in order to get them excited about learning.
