Hello community members!

We have been ramping up community outreach in equestrian industry over the past couple of weeks- riders, trainers, equipment manufacturers and horse owners in general in order to gather insights in their daily usage, issues and what areas our product can help them in.

As a result we have received good feedback and some really interesting questions, not only from the people we reached out to but also from our current community members. We think that these questions might clear uncertainties in some areas that we have not taken care of yet.

So here are the questions:

What will be available colours?

Planned colour palette: navy blue, dark brown, black — to ensure horse’s peace and well-being.

Can I wash it in washing machine?

The product design foresees that upper layer and sublayer will be removable and washable. The inner layer (sensors + electronics) are not to be immersed in water.

When do you plan to have the first product ready?

Pre-sales are planned to start in Q3 of 2018, first batch to be ready by the end of 2018.

Why do I need this? If my horse or rider is crooked I cant do anything about it.

The Smart Saddle Pad is mostly for prevention measures — to understand the saddle fit in relation to a particular horse occasionally as the horse’s shape changes and thus saddle adjustments are needed.

Why do I need this? I can tell that my horse doesn’t feel well myself just by riding it.

The Smart Saddle Pad indicaties precisely the areas under the saddle that bear too much of rider’s weight (if it is not distributed evenly). Thus, the pad instructs about saddle adjustments or change.

How can pad determine who’s fault is it, horse or rider?

It is very crucial that the pressure on horse’s back under the weight of a rider is distributed evenly. Furthermore, it is absolutely critical that there is no load on horse’s spine and vertebrae.

What kind of data will I be able to see in the app?

The initial product version includes a wireless screen that shows data from saddle pad sensors in live mode. The intuitive design and usage of colors will indicate the rider (or any other specialist using the device) the pressure distribution (the load on each sensor will be related to other sensors and the system will calculate and display the situation). The screen will also have picture saving mode to capture particular situation and show/explain it later to saddle fitter, veterinarian, or other specialist.

Are there any metal parts in the pad? I am afraid that using it while jumping might hurt my horse.

Design of the pad foresees that there are minor metal parts; however, they won’t affect the horse in any way.

What if my horse is already injured, will it help in the rehabilitation?

The precise information about particular saddle fit will benefit the rehabilitation. To make it 100% sure, please consult with your veterinarian.

I have 15 horses in my stable and some 7–9 people frequent riders, how many blankets do I need?

A perfect chance to save resources — sharing a pad among several horses! Moreover, the system allows to save picture of sensor data (pressure distribution on horse’s back) and enter the name of rider and horse.
