We use Intercom for Hyperlogs and we love it. One of my favorite features in Intercom is that it pulls in social info about our users e.g. their twitter, facebook and linked in profiles. This is very cool and useful in many ways, for example, we can segment influencers and approach them with different marketing messages.

A few days ago, my cofounder wanted to send a welcome tweet to new users. I thought that was a great idea and a good way to get some virality and increase our Twitter presence. Unfortunately that feature is not available in Intercom, so I turned to zapier for help.

We also use and love Zapier — It’s a life saver and productivity multiplier. I figured this will be a simple “zap”:

  1. User signs up in intercom
  2. Get Twitter username
  3. Follow user on twitter
  4. Tweet a welcome message

There were 2 problems. Zapier doesn’t let you follow twitter users (why?). There is no easy way to extract a twitter username and also not all users have a twitter account. Luckily, Zapier has a way to run some code, so here is the zap.

Zap to tweet new intercom users

Step 2 is to filter out users that don’t have a twitter account and it looks like this:
