Boxing, if you think about boxing Bondi, was always about men, big muscles, lots of testosterone, tattoos and an air of danger. There was always something edgy about boxing and there will always be something edgy about boxing. Boxing is, after all, about punching, about swiping out. But that is not true about boxing is about today, which is about defence and is about defending. It is not a violent form of boxing which you might say that boxing many years ago was. Boxing today, which is about the limbs, is about using the eight limbs, and is about fitness, agility, speed, strength and defence. It is not about knocking another person down at all, if anything it is about keeping yourself upright. It is about confidence, about fitness and it is, yes it is, about edginess too. It’s quite edgy going to go a boxing studio, more so than going to a pilates studio, and you know you are going to get a good and strong work out.

Box where you feel comfortable

If you walk into a boxing gym and do not feel comfortable, then walk straight out. It is a bit like going to any gym; you need to feel comfortable in your own skin in the studio or gym. You do want to feel challenged and excited, which is why boxing is such a cool sport to take part in, but you want to feel safe too. A boxing studio should be a safe space. Boxing studios should have the best trainers, the best facilities and should offer a variety of sessions; one on one, small classes or fairly big classes. There is boxing for beginners, intermediates and advanced and you will pick it up quickly. And if you go to boxing Bondi, you will get strong and fit quickly too.
