journey’s end
the galaxy rises
on a quiet moon night
grasses swish
leaves shush
the night rock
still warms
from lengthening day
which brought
game and swift
prayers for small souls
thank the earth
for her gifts, the roots
bring forth their bounty
muscles ease against cooling stone
remembering a day of living
of treks into high hills
icy waters
remnants of snow
the smell of forest resins
the thin air
and sunlight
set the mind to roam
i can’t imagine you there
until you are here
and though i am
there tonight in my distant future
i wait here in an unknown past
