Maybe I am a piece of shit, you’re not the first to call me that today.

It’s still astounding to me that there is an expectation that the author can walk into a job interview for a software development position and be surprised to the point of offense when asked to demonstrate the core competencies to prove he is fit to perform the job. Instead he wants to substitute his number of consecutive active days of github.

I’ve never once been on a job interview where I wasn’t asked a series of technical questions. I’d be wary of a job opportunity that didn’t try to vet that skill in their potential employees.

The interviewers are asking pedantic questions, granted, and it’s not a question that I think is very telling of skill. But 3 interviews in a row he was asked a question re: graph traversals. You’d think that by the 2nd time he would have looked it up, merely out of curiosity. Sure, the line of questioning sucks, but it’s not an unreasonable skill to ask about. Graphs are arguably the single most important data structure in a programmers toolkit.

Anyway, have a nice day!
