This is… weird timing. I’ve spent the last month in Santa Fe, mostly on my own, with visions of solo hikes dancing through my mind. My mom and my husband worry for me. When they express concern, I hear “You’re a child/girl, and incapable,” when that’s not quite what they mean. And of course, as a woman, I will always be at risk of inherently more harm. It won’t stop me. I’m still hiking alone… There’s too much to see out there.
But I’m trying to hear “Stay safe. Be careful,” as love, not doubt. It’s not easy with the baggage of a lifetime of skepticism due to gender.
So! With all my heart, I hope you have many wonderful and fulfilling adventures in the weeks to come. I know you will. ❤️
