Medium Reading Lists by Emily

Number 1
In the last few weeks, I’ve found some beautifully written, powerful, and heartbreaking pieces on Medium. Most of them I’ve stumbled on through conversations and digging around — they weren’t easily accessible through my news feed.
So, I’d like to make some of these pieces easier for other people to find:
- The Color of Puke by Mary Jane and Dan McCann
2. Time Heals Nothing, but time changes everything by Heidi Dubrouillet
This post may help someone trying to understand life after a great loss. This post could also make someone feel worse…medium.com
3. So, 2 ex-prison guards, 2 gang members, 1 schizophrenic, 1 mentally disabled, 1 armed robber, 1 Fa’afafine and a 7 year old kid walk into a halfway house… by Jules
When you’re a kid and you’re in the midst of your latest major upheaval because your philandering dad has broken and…medium.com
4. The Mirror Houses my Mother by Brooke Eisner
Finding these pieces has, in part, been a benefit of my 30 days of Medium posts experiment — just generally being more active, more consistently has helped me find the sort of writing I was looking for when I came here.
A shout out to Kel Campbell’s My Fight To Let Women Speak Honestly, I found many of the above through conversations and connections that came about through this piece. (Also probably explains why it’s a very womany list —maybe I’ll do an all male author one next time to even it out.)
Also, conversations with the likes of Colette Clarke Torres and Pol Reney have led me down interesting paths.
P.S. There are probably some great pieces I’ve forgotten, I’m going to have to keep a list and if anyone has suggestions please respond with them.
