The Unthinkable Is Happening in Our Own ‘Backyard’

Growing up in Oakland, many young girls did this as a means to make money. It’s still a huge problem out there, and the culture that supports it is frightening. I wonder where we begin to fight? Because simply locking people up does not change the needs of communities where girls find this to be the only solution, or men and women who find this to be profitable, or those who patronize these sorts of rings.
