I would want to figure out why that feature was originally deemed important enough to copy/borrow (providing, of course, that I had reasonable time/budget to do so). If the answer was: “We didn’t really think it through,” or “The product roadmap has changed and that’s no longer relevant,” that would give me the green light to remove or change the feature confidently.

If the answer was: “That feature is necessary so users can do [X],” then I would want to make sure my redesign either addresses [X] in a better way or that I can make a strong case that [X] is no longer important to the product.

Knowing which situation I’m in is very important for being able to articulate rationale and get stakeholders to “buy in” to the redesign.
