Basics of Prompt Engineering for Beginners
Today, I want to share a heartwarming and enlightening experience that I had with my 10-year-old daughter involving the fascinating world of AI.
As a parent, it’s always a delight to witness the curiosity of our children. Recently, my daughter approached me with questions about ChatGPT, the AI language model. Her innocent curiosity became an opportunity to introduce her to the world of AI in a way that’s relatable and exciting.
We delved into the concept of “prompting” — the art of communicating with ChatGPT effectively. She asked, “Dad, how do I talk to ChatGPT and make it understand what I’m asking for?” It was a perfect segue to introduce her to the RTF framework:
R = Role T = Task F = Format
The beauty of this framework lies in its simplicity:
👩🚀 Role: Immerse yourself in a particular role or character.
🔍 Task: Clearly define the task or request you want from ChatGPT.
📝 Format: Specify how you want the response presented.
It was incredible to see her eyes light up as I demonstrated how this framework could turn a simple interaction into a creative adventure. We explored various roles and tasks, witnessing how ChatGPT responded with unique outputs each time.
Whether you’re a beginner or you know someone who’s intrigued by AI, this framework offers an engaging entry point into the AI world, making learning both enjoyable and educational.
To kick-start your own journey, here are a couple of prompts that my daughter and I tried:

🔍 Role: Detective
🔦 Task: Solve the mystery of the missing diamond from a mansion.
📝 Format: Write a compelling narrative of the investigation.
This heartwarming experience reminded me of the power of curiosity and how AI can be an avenue to nurture it. Let’s encourage the explorers within us, regardless of age, and embrace the ever-evolving world of innovation and learning.
